Enjoy the world from above!
Trial flights can be made without formalities for flying times up to two hours or 20 landings. To obtain a student pilot license from the Federal Office for Civil Aviation, you must submit the proper application form, 2 passport photos and a medical check from an aviation medical examiner to the Federal Office for Civil Aviation (Bundesamt für Zivilluftfahrt) in Berne.
Theory lessons are as follows:

  General Subjects
  • Air Law
  • Human Performance
  • Meteorology
  • Navigation
  Helicopter-Specific Subjects
  • Flight Planning Flight Performance
  • Operating Procedures
  • Fundamentals of Helicopter Flight
  • Radio Telephony/Flight Radio Operation

Based on our experience, we recommend taking the practical portion of your training contemporaneously with the theory lessons. This will help you absorb the material better.

The general subjects are taught in cooperation with local fixed-wing flight schools. The helicopter-specific material and practical instruction is given in small groups at  BB HELI AG, ZURICH.

At least 45 hours flying time (including 10 hours solo flying time) is required for admittance to the pilot’s exam. For holders of fixed-wing pilot licences this legal minimum is reduced to 35 hours.

Flight Crew Licencing Regulations (RFP) require 12 hours flying time per year for renewal of a private helicopter pilot licence. A checkup by an aviation medical examiner is required every 2 years. Half of your hours of helicopter flying time can be applied to the required hours for renewal of your fixed-wing pilot licence.
